BALTIMORE, Md. - The Hood College men's track and field team began the outdoor season with a pair of school records and event win at the Blue & Gold Classic, hosted by Goucher College.
Record Breakers
- Dustin Miller (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) broke the school record in the shot put with a mark of 12.70 meters (41-8) to place sixth. The mark bested the previous record of 12.57 meters (41-3) set by Kevin Ciocco back in 2021.
- The 4x100-meter relay team of Jamel Mins (Columbia, Md./Atholton), Evan Ellington (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti), Rell Asamoah (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) and Tofunmi Okuseinde (Baltimore, Md./Parkville) ran a time of 43.08, placing second in the event. The time cut .26 seconds from the record of 43.34 that was set back in 2012.
Event Winner
- Ellington recorded a career-best in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.14 seconds to win the event. The time is the second fastest time in school history in the event.
Highlights
- Miller also placed fourth in the hammer throw with a mark of 40.64 meters. The mark is a career-best for the graduate student and is the third best mark in school history.
- Chris Sappe (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) placed fourth in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:11.92. The time is the second fastest time in school history.
- Okuseinde also ran in the 200-meter dash and finished with a time of 23.04, placing fourth. The time is the fourth-fastest time in Blazer history in the event.
