FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College baseball limited Alvernia University to just six hits but did find its groove at the plate in a 3-0 loss in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth play.
On the Mound
- Gavin Pollard (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley) started the game for the Blazers and lasted only 0.1 innings, with three walks and a run, taking the loss.
- Mason Sawyers (Culpeper, Va./Culpeper County) retired seven out of the eight batters faced in 2.2 innings of relief with a strikeout.
- Joe Monteleone (Haddon Heights, N.J./Haddon Heights) and Aaron Heller (Philadelphia, Pa./Jack Barrack Hebrew Acad.) both went two innings, each giving up a run and combining for three strikeouts.
- Finn Scott-Daniels (Annandale, Va./Annandale) threw a scoreless eighth inning with a walk.
At the Plate
- Jacob Saylor (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) and Tyler Schwarzman (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) both led the Blazers at the plate with two hits.
How it Happened
- The Golden Wolves began the first inning with walks by Thomas Faggioni and Joe Glass. Following a Zach Rogacki ground out to second base, Mike Ramundo walked to load up the bases. Jason Kelly walked with the bases loaded to score Faggioni to give Alvernia a 1-0 lead.
- Sawyers and Monteleone combined in the next three innings to retire the next 10 of 12 batters for Alvernia, to keep Hood within one run.
- Faggioni doubled with one out in the fifth inning and later scored on a Rogacki ground ball that was not fielded by Keegan Brennan (Lake Wynonah, Pa./Nativity BVM) to give Alvernia a 2-0 lead.
- Jason Lind led off the seventh inning with a single up the middle for the Golden Wolves. Lind moved to third on a Faggioni single into left field and touched home on a Glass ground ball out to first base.
- The Blazers' Cameron Day (Hagerstown, Md./Clear Spring) and Cristian Reyna (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) got on base in the ninth to bring the tying run to the plate. Shayne Ostrowsky escaped the jam for the save.
For the Opponent
- Faggioni was 3-for-3 at the plate and scored twice for the Golden Wolves.
- Glass and Kelly both had an RBI.
- Connor Friedel recorded two hits in the game.
- Evan Wood threw eight complete shutout innings, allowing only seven hits and four strikeouts.
- Ostrowsky came in to get the save in the ninth inning for the Golden Wolves.

- The Blazers fell to 11-10 (4-3) on the season.
- Alvernia improved to 15-7 (9-2).
