Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College softball team lost both games to the Dickinson Red Devils 4-0 and 7-5.
Inside the Circle
- Jordan Long (Middletown, Md./Middletown) tossed seven innings for the Blazers in the opener. The junior allowed four runs on eight hits, and no walks. She struck out four.
- In the second game, Rebecca Gottleib (Linthicum, Md./North County) was the first of three pitchers. She allowed one run on four hits in three innings. Rachel Benden (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) allowed four runs in the fourth. Lindsay Wilson (Pasadena, Md./Annapolis Area Christian School) finished the game with three innings of relief. She allowed a pair of unearned runs on three hits and a walk, taking the loss.
At the Plate
- Alyssa Walters (New Oxford, Pa./New Oxford) went 3-for-6 on the day with a double and two singles. The sophomore crossed home and added a walk.
- Chloe Saunders (Middletown, Md./Middletown) doubled and drove in two.
- In the second game, Jordan Long (Middletown, Md./Middletown) went 2-for-3 and scored two runs.
- Gottleib doubled in both games.
Dickinson 4, Hood 0
- The Red Devils scored first in the second inning when Emily Whelan hit a solo home run to left field.
- In the fourth inning, Paige Hahn hit a lead-off double for Dickinson and scored on a Whelan sacrifice fly to center for the second run for the Red Devils.
- Dickinson increased its lead by two with a two-out RBI double to center field knocking in Devon Kueny Jane Lloyd.
- The Blazers could not get anything going offensively, only mustering four hits and drawing two walks against Lindsay Kucker and Riley Kuehn.
- Kucker went five innings for the win.
- Kuehn pitched a perfect sixth and seventh for the save.
Dickinson 7, Hood 5
- In the bottom of the first, Jocelyn Pfleiger (Quakertown, Pa./Dock Mennonite Academy) was able to draw a walk and double to left field by Gottleib advanced Pfleiger to third. The Blazers scored their first run of the day when Pfleiger scored on a throwing error by Dickinson.
- In the second inning, Hahn hit a leadoff home run to right field to tie the game at 1-1 After Hahn homered to tie the game in the second, the Blazers reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the inning.
- Long singled to start the inning and Gabby Carton (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) followed with a walk. After Colleen Blasko (Bowie, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) bunted them into scoring position, an RBI groundout by Saunders made it 2-1.
- Eden Blanker led off the fifth with a homer to give the Red Devils a 5-2 advantage.
- A two-out rally in the bottom of the sixth inning tied it for the Blazers. Walters led off the frame with a double and Long was hit by a pitch. It appeared Dickinson may escape the inning but a two-out double by Chloe Saunders (Middletown, Md./Middletown) kept the inning going, driving in Walters. A bobbled throw at the first base and a dropped fly ball allowed Long and Saunders to score, tying things at 5-5.
- In the top of the seventh, Hahn reached on an error, which proved to be the difference. With the score still tied and two outs, Jessie Sandusky ripped a two-run double for the go-ahead runs, knocking in Blanker and Kaylie Renner.
For the Red Devils
- Sandusky tallied three RBIs and scored three times and two hits in the second game for the Red Devils.
- Blanker was 4-for-7 on the day with three RBIs and a solo home run.
- Hahn was 3-for-7 with a solo home run.
- Kuney was 3-for-8 on the day with a double, one RBI, and a stolen base.
- In game two Kuehn pitched four innings allowing five hits and two earned runs. Renner came into relief pitching three innings and allowed two hits and one earned run.
Notes
- Hood drops to 1-3 season.
- Dickinson improves to 3-1.
