FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College softball team fell in both ends of a non-conference doubleheader to visiting Gettysburg 5-2 and 4-0.
At the Plate
- Alyssa Walters (New Oxford, Pa./New Oxford) had a two-run double in game one that accounted for all of the Blazers' scoring.
- Rachel Benden (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) walked twice and Kaelyn Blocher (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) was hit by a pitch twice.
Inside the Circle
- Rebecca Gottleib (Linthicum, Md./North County) had a strong pitching performance in the opener. The sophomore allowed two unearned runs on three hits and a walk, striking out five.
- Jordan Long (Middletown, Md./Middletown) took the loss in relief, allowing three runs on four hits in one inning of work.
- Benden got the start in game two and was charged with three runs on seven hits in five innings.
- Lindsay Wilson (Pasadena, Md./Annapolis Area Christian School) closed both games, accumulating three innings. The senior allowed an unearned run on three hits and a walk.
Gettysburg 5, Hood 2
- In the bottom of the second, Benden walked and Mallorie Hetzel (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) was hit by a pitch to put a pair of runners on for Walters with two outs. The sophomore doubled off the fence in left to clear the bases for a 2-0 lead.
- Olivia Moser doubled and scored on error in the fourth for Stevenson's first run. Moser tied the game later in the inning, scoring on a wild pitch.
- Gettysburg broke the game open with a three-run seventh. Allie Cluster, Jordan Pansy and Lauren O'Leary had three straight hits to start the inning, with O'Leary driving in Cluster for the go-ahead run. After a run scored on an error, Moser drove in O'Leary with an RBI groundout for a 5-2 lead.
Gettysburg 4, Hood 0
- Allegra DeCandia put the Bullets ahead 2-0 in the second with a two-run home run to left field.
- She stretched the lead to 3-0 with an RBI single in the fifth.
- Gettysburg's final run scored on an error in the outfield in the sixth.
For the Opponent
- Jasmin Herrera pitched a three-hit shutout in game two for Gettysburg, striking out six and walking one
- DeCandia had three hits in game two, driving in three.
- Julia Smith and Jess Campana had three hits apiece over the doubleheader.
- Megan Hughes got the win in relief in game one, striking out four in 2.1 shutout innings. She replaced Paige Forry, who allowed two runs in the opening 4.2.
