Keegan Brennan (Lake Wynonah, Pa./Nativity BVM) hit his first career home run as the Hood College baseball team dropped its Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth series opener at York 7-3.
At the Plate
- Brennan led the Blazers at the plate with a home run.
- Austin Rhue (Milton, Del./Cape Henlopen) ended the afternoon 2-for-4.
- Cristian Reyna (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) recorded an RBI.
- Stephen Sommer (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun) and Matthew Stout (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) both scored.
On the Mound
- Kevin Nelson, Jr. (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Twp.) started the game for the Blazers and gave up two runs on three hits in one inning.
- Gavin Pollard (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley) allowed one hit in a scoreless second.
- Gavin McGuigan (Croydon, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) threw 2.2 innings letting in one run on two hits with three strikeouts to take the loss. Cole Whitton (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) relieved him for the final out of the inning.
- Scott Ash (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) pitched the sixth inning, allowing two runs on one hit.
- Mason Salisbury (Colora, Md./Perryville) walked two and let in two in 1.1 innings. Joe Monteleone (Haddon Heights, N.J./Haddon Heights) finished the eighth inning giving up two hits.
How it Happened
- The Blazers began the first inning with a Sommer single through the left side of the infield and a Stout hit by pitch. Reyna delivered a two-out single to left field to score Sommer.Stout crossed home on a passed ball later in the inning to give Hood a 2-0 lead.
- Robby Elzinga led off the bottom of the first for York with a double down the left field line. Gabe Trevena singled up the middle and moved to second on a wild pitch. Michael Tinneny also hit a single up the middle to knock in Elzinga and Trevena as the Spartans tied up the game at 2-2.
- York took the lead in the fifth inning as Elzinga singled through the left side of the infield and scored on a Tinneny double into the right field gap.
- Chris Betler belted a two-run homer over the left field fence in the sixth to extend the Spartans' lead to 5-2.
- Andrew Santarpia and Brendan Martin both drew walks in the eighth inning. Betler singled through the right side to load up the bases with one out. Lucas Pendergast scored Santarpia on a sacrifice fly to left and Brian Jakubek singled down the left field line to knock in Martin for a 7-2 lead heading to the ninth inning.
- Brennan homered over the left center field fence to tack on a run for the Blazers in the ninth.
For the Opponent
- Tinneny was 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and three RBIs.
- Betler hit a home run and collected two RBIs.
- Elzinga hit a double and scored two times.
- Zach Reed received the win for the Spartans, giving up two runs on seven hits. He also struck out three and walked two in seven innings.
- Ethan Kennedy threw the final two innings, allowing one run on two hits to get the save.

- The Blazers fell to 14-16 (7-9) on the season.
- York improved to 15-13 (11-5).
