ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Hood College's
Jocelyn Pfleiger (Quakertown, Pa./Dock Mennonite Academy) broke the single season record with her home run at Elizabethtown in the opening-game win 6-2.
Colleen Blasko (Bowie, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) tied the softball team's single game hit record in a 14-0 win in the final game of a doubleheader at Elizabethtown.
At the Plate
- Blasko led the Blazers at the plate, going 6-for-8 with a triple and five RBIs. Her four hits in game two was the sixth time this season a Blazers had tied the single game record.
- Pfleiger homered to set the hit record and knocked in two RBIs. The blast also extended her season homer record to 12.
- Rachel Benden (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) ended the day with five hits, scoring three times and stealing a base.
- Sammy McIntosh (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson), Lillian Larsen (Arbutus, Md./Western Tech) and Kathryn Phillips (Point of Rocks, Md./Brunswick) all doubled in the twinbill.
Inside the Circle
- Rebecca Gottleib (Linthicum, Md./North County) tossed a complete game in game one in the circle. The sophomore struck out six and allowed two runs on eight hits.
- Benden got the ball in game two and gave up only four hits and struck out three in an complete game effort.
Hood 6, Elizabethtown 2
- Pfleiger's homer in the first inning not only gave the Blazers a 1-0 lead, but it was her 51st hit of the season which breaks the single season record of 50 previously held by Pfleiger and Amy Hagerdon.
- Gottleib singled to start the third inning. Benden singled through the right side and a throwing error by Grace Hussey allowed Gottleib to score. McIntosh reached on a fielders choice. Both Benden and McIntosh scored on a Kaelyn Blocher (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) single to left field with McIntosh aided by a fielding error by Ashley Judd. Blocher capped off the four-run inning, scoring on a Blasko fielder's choice to extend the Hood lead 5-0.
- Hood added another run in the fourth inning when Benden reached on an error by Hussey at second base and later crossed home when Jordan Long (Middletown, Md./Middletown) reached first on a fielder's choice.
- The Blue Jays were able to put two runs on the board in the sixth inning. Brooke Huczko walked, and Paige Phillips and Ashley Mistichelli both singled to load the bases. Emily Polimeni singled through the left side later in the inning to score Huczko and Phillips.
Hood 14, Elizabethtown 0
- Hood loaded the bases in the first inning on back-to-back singles by Gottleib and Benden followed by a McIntosh walk. Gottleib scored on a wild pitch and during the same at bat Benden and McIntosh were knocked in on a Blocher single to left center field. Lindsay Wilson (Pasadena, Md./Annapolis Area Christian School) singled up the middle and Long walked to load the bases again. Blasko singled up the middle to drive inBlocher and a bases-loaded walk by Chloe Saunders (Middletown, Md./Middletown) let Wilson cross home to cap off a five-run first inning.
- Wilson and Long led off the third inning with back-to-back hits and scored on a Blasko triple into left center field. Blasko scored on an error by Phillips at shortstop to give the Blazers an 8-0 lead.
- Hood added four more runs in the fourth inning to push its lead to 12-0. Blocher scored on a Long single up the middle and Wilson crossed home on a Blasko base hit to shortstop. Pfleiger and Gottleib drew back-to-back walks later in the inning to drive inLong and Blasko.
- Kathryn Phillips (Point of Rocks, Md./Brunswick) doubled over the center fielder's head to knock in Charlotte Hartner (Flourtown, Pa./Springfield Twp.) and Phillips scored when Izzy Tanacea (Charlton, Mass./Bay Path RVT) grounded out to the pitcher to cap off a 14-0 win in five innings.
For the Opponent
- Paige Phillips recorded four hits to lead the Blue Jays at the plate.
- Polimeni had two hits with two RBIs in game one.
- Tori Caputo started game on and allowed six runs on 12 hitsto take the loss.
- Mikaela Benner got the start in game two and gave up five runs on four hits in just 0.2 innings and was charged with the loss.
- Cierra Kunkle tossed 2.2 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits. Maddy Jean retired the final two batters in the fourth inning, letting in three runs on three hits. Caputo threw the fifth inning and gave up one run on two hits.
