TOWSON, Md. – The Hood College men's track and field team won three events as the Blazers finished second at the ECAC Outdoor Championships, hosted by Goucher College.
Winners
- Chris Sappe (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) won the 3000-meter steeplechase and had a pair of third-place finishes. The first-year student took the steeplechase crown in 12:38.41. He completed the 800-meter run in 2:01.99 and ran a time of 4:08.89 in the 1500-meter run.
- The 4x100-meter relay of Tofunmi Okuseinde (Baltimore, Md./Parkville), Evan Ellington (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti), Rell Asamoah (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) and Jamel Mins (Columbia, Md./Atholton) claimed the victory in 42.30.
- Ryan Leonardi (Bowie, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) took the title and set the school record in the javelin with a throw of 48.37 meters (158-8). The senior also was fifth in the 110-meter hurdles in 23.50 and sixth in the hammer at 30.97 meters (101-7).
Record Breaker
- Dustin Miller (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) broke his own school record in the discus with a mark of 37.90m (124-04). He finished second.
On the Track
- The Blazers placed four runners into the finals of the 100-meter dash. Ellington was the runner up with a time of 11.023, edging Mins by just 0.002. Okuseinde raced to fifth in 11.17. Asamoah finished seventh in 11.23. His 11.04 in the prelims made him the fourth-fastest Blazer in program history.
- All four also placed in the top eight in the 200. Mins was second in 22.38. Ellington's time of 22.62 was third. Okuseinde added another fifth-place finish, running a 22.72 and became the fifth fastest Blazer in the event all-time. Asamoah was the eighth runner across the line in 23.33.
- Okuseinde, Ellington, Sappe and Mins combined for the second-place time of 3:27.78 in the 4x400-meter relay.
- With a time of 37:14.70, Alex Seskar (Great Mills, Md./Great Mills) was third in the 10,000-meter run.
- In the 400-meter hurdles, Arnold Nguele (Washington, D.C./Dr. Henry A. Wise) was fourth in 1:04.19.
In the Field
- Miller threw the shot put 12.04m (39-6) and was third. The grad student had a throw of 31.22m (102-5) to place fifth in the hammer.
Team Scores
- The Blazers were second with 125 points, eight behind the team champions from McDaniel.
