YORK, Pa. - Hood College's men's track and field team were led by three all-conference performances and school records by the 4x400 relay team and
Chris Sappe (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) on the final day of the Middle Atlantic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by York College of Pennslyvania.
Record Breakers
- Sappe bested his school record in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.77, placing second overall in the event by 0.002 seconds to LVC's Elijah McKell. He cut nearly three seconds off his previous record of 1:56.52 at the Bison Outdoor Invitational in early April. His placement gave the Blazers eight points and gave him All-MAC Second Team accolades.
- The 4x400 team of Tofunmi Okuseinde (Baltimore, Md./Parkville), Evan Ellington (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti), Chris Sappe (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) and Jamel Mins (Columbia, Md./Atholton) finished ninth with a time of 3:25.92. The time bested the previous school record that was set at the MAC Championships in 2018 by PJ Alexander, Zach Crossey, R.J. Tucker and AJ Lewis that ran a time of 3:28.39.
All-MAC Honors
- Mins also finished second overall in the 100-meter dash, with a time of 10.81. The time scored eight points for the Blazers in the event and Mins received second-team all-conference honors. Mins also placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.92, just .01 seconds off of the school record and received third-team all conference accolades and six points for the Blazers.
- Ellington joined Mins as All-MAC in the 100. He scored six points with a time of 10.89 that placed third overall and scored all-conference third team honors. The senior also finished fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.22 to receive four points for the Blazers. He and Mins again traded places on Hood's all-time list in the 100, with Mins retaking second after Ellington had taken the spot from him during the preliminaries.
- Okuseinde was the third Blazer to score points in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.10 to score one point for the Blazers.
Notes
- The Blazers finished in 10th with 33 points overall.
- Messiah won the team MAC Championships with 132 points.
