CHESTER, Pa. – The Hood College women's volleyball team could not come away with a win over Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth opponent Widener on the road, as the Blazers were swept 3-0 in their second conference match of the season.
Inside the Box Score
Ann Ofoegbu (Falling Waters, W.Va./Spring Mills) led the team with seven kills.
Jackie Malitzki (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) had eight assists and four digs in the evening.
How it Happened
The first set was a tale of two runs, as Hood jumped out to a 6-3 lead before five straight points by Widener suddenly put them in the hole. After fighting back to retake a slight 11-10 advantage, a seven-point run from the Pride put them at a disadvantage they could not come back from, losing the first set and falling behind 1-0 in the match.
Widener would start the second set with a 6-1 run as they looked to take control of the match, but the Blazers fought back and managed to stay within one good run of a lead. With the score reading 15-14 in favor of the Pride, the home team would surge ahead, scoring 10 of the next 12 points to suddenly put Hood in danger of being swept.
Although set three started off evenly matched, Widener eventually jumped out to a 13-4 lead and did not let off the gas, going on a 10-point run later in the set to close out the match and send the Blazers home with a 3-0 loss.
For the Opponent
Lilyanna Martucci had eight kills and seven service aces.
Meghan Prior finished with 16 assists.
Notes
Hood falls to 5-10 (0-2), while Widener improves to 12-6 (1-1).
