Women’s volleyball exorcises Devils

FREDERICK, Md. – The Hood College women's volleyball team picked up its first home match win today, defeating the Devils of FDU-Florham 3-1 after falling behind on a marathon first set.

Set Scores
The Blazers won 29-31, 25-21, 25-15, 25-18.

Inside the Box Score
Ann Ofoegbu (Falling Waters, W.Va./Spring Mills) led Hood with 18 kills.

Anna Daley (Erie, Pa./Harborcreek) had four total blocks in the match.

Ainslee Barger (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) had the most assists with 22.

Cam Madden (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring) ended the afternoon with 29 digs.

How it Happened
After a late Marywood cancellation caused this to be the only match slated for the day, both teams decided to play like they were aiming for two sets in one, matching each other point-for-point most of the first set. Despite multiple runs for both teams, getting to 25 became not enough, and despite the Blazers with a 29-28 advantage, the Devils scored the next three points to take the early match lead.

Set two started off close once again, but an 8-1 run from Hood midway through the set looked like they would get back on track quickly with their 19-14 lead. FDU-Florham had other plans though, scoring the next seven points to jump ahead, but it would be the Blazers who would take the set after all, scoring the next six points to even the match.

The third set was all Hood, as Ofoegbu dominated the court most of the way, helping build a 20-10 lead before closing out the set to swing the match advantage toward them.

It looked like the Blazers would cruise to the match victory, starting off with an 11-4 advantage. Unfortunately, the Devils again did not go down easily as they stormed back to tie the set at 13. Hood was able to take advantage of some untimely FDU-
Florham errors though, eventually finding themselves back in the driver's seat and not letting the visitors get close again, closing out the set and a 3-1 match win.

For the Opponent
Meghan Kreinberg finished with 16 kills.

Lilli Nawrotzki led the Devils with seven aces and 25 assists.
