FREDERICK, Md. - Women's soccer was defeated by Messiah 3-0 in Saturday afternoon's Breast Cancer Awareness match.
Inside the Box Score
Brenna Ellenberger (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) made 17 saves.
How it Happened
Messiah lit up the scoreboard early, Julia Martin found Addi Martin whose goal at 3' gave the Falcons an early 1-0 lead. Still on the attack, Bella Touzeau crossed it to Mia Libby at 16'. Libby did not take a touch; instead, she used her head to sneak a goal in the bottom left corner and go up 2-0.
Priya Nair (Falls Church, Va./George C. Marshall) tried to answer on the ensuing possession, but her shot went wide of the net.
Just a minute later, Touzeau set up Julia Martin who scored to extend the lead 3-0. Ellenberger strung together six saves to finish the half and keep the score the same.
The second half was more of a stalemate. Messiah took a lot of shots, but none went in. Hood kept it in gear through the final minutes.
Hannah O'Guin (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) took a long shot at the 78' that had the crowd at the edges of their seats as it almost went in. Ellenberger saved eight shots in the second half to bring her total to 17 saves on the evening.
Hood showed flashes and seemed to settle in more as time went on, but the Falcons' early goals built a deficit too big to overcome. After a hard-fought battle against one of the nation's top teams, Hood fell 3-0.
