FREDERICK, Md. –
Brenna Ellenberger (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) sets a program record in career shutouts as first-years Kylie O'Grady and
Sara Yeich (Middletown, PA/Middletown Area) score to win their second game of the season against Lebanon Valley College 2-0.
Inside the Box Score
Brenna Ellenberger (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) had six saves on the evening.
Kiley O'Grady (Frederick, Md/Oakdale) punched in Hood's second goal of the season, her first career goal.
Sara Yeich's (Middletown, PA/Middletown Area) goal in the second half was the first her collegiate career as well.
How it Happened
Lebanon Valley put up more shots than Hood on the night but the closest for the Flying Dutchmen came via a strike from just outside the box that Ellenberger punched out from just underneath the crossbar in the first half but there would be no scoring for either squad.
Fourteen minutes into the second half the Blazers had pressure on the goalkeeper's right side as O'Grady split her coverage to leave herself wide open on the opposite side. A feed from
McKenna Bishop (Johnson City, Tenn./Mount Hebron (Md.)) and a gather set up shot with some side spin that found space past the goalie and put the Blazers up 1-0 for the first time since September 10.
Later a breakaway by the Flying Dutchmen striker caused a collision with a moving defender and a foul to create a free kick just outside the box for Lebanon Valley.
Berkheimer of Lebanon Valley took the kick but the ball finished high of the goal. However, since the play started before the whistle, there was another kick granted.
Although the second kick added drama, the result would be yet another shot that sailed 10 feet above the goal and rolled into the dark far side of Thomas Athletic and rolled to the Nicodemus Athletic Complex.
In the 87', a shot by
Catie Roberts (Elkton, Md./North East) created a save for the keeper but she couldn't corral the ball in and Yeich got the rebound and chipped it in for the final goal of the game.
