Women’s volleyball douses Phoenix on Senior Night

FREDERICK, Md. – In honor of Senior Night, the Hood College women's volleyball team's seniors showed out in a straight-set sweep of Wilson College.

Set Scores
The Blazers won 25-22, 25-18, 25-17.

Inside the Box Score
Ann Ofoegbu (Falling Waters, W.Va./Spring Mills) led Hood with 17 kills and six service aces.

Ainslee Barger (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) ended the night with 22 assists.

Molly McGraw (Forest Hill, Md./Concordia Prep) finished the match with nine digs.

How it Happened
Wilson started the match off with heat, jumping out to a 5-2 lead, but Hood took five of the next six points to jump ahead. After some back-and-froth had the score tied at 10, the Blazers went on an 8-1 run to take a commanding lead. Despite seeming to be in the bag, the Phoenix got back into the set with a late game rally, getting within one at 23-22, but Ofoegbu picked up the next two kills to give Hood the 1-0 advantage.

The second set started off better for Hood, as they started with a 6-1 advantage before increasing it to 14-4 shortly after. After being sizably ahead for a while, Wilson again threatened to tie the set with six straight points, decreasing the Blazers' lead to just 19-16. That would be as close as they would get though as the home squad locked back in to close out the set and get ready for a potential sweep.

Set three was not decided right away, as both teams grappled for a foothold in potentially the last set, getting the score to 8-8. Hood would find their footing and dig in, racing in front with an 11-2 run to take control. This time though, the Blazers would not let Wilson get close enough to threaten, finishing the set out and cementing their sweep.

For the Opponent
Abby Moreland had 10 kills.

Michaela Windisch tallied 13 assists.
