WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Hood College women's ice hockey team could not keep up with the flurry of shots put up by Middle Atlantic Conference opponent Wilkes, falling 5-0 on the road.
Inside the Box Score
Kamryn Sohner (Hilliard, Oh./Sunnyvale) made 58 saves in the game.
Kayla MacKinnon (Blain, Mn./Breck) blocked five shots.
How it Happened
The Blazers had an opportunity to open the scoring early with a power play less than 30 seconds into the game, but the Colonels killed it off and began putting on the pressure, finding the back of the net just over six minutes in to take an early 1-0 lead.
Although Hood held strong for most of the rest of the first, Wilkes managed to double their lead with just over three minutes left, putting the visitors in a 2-0 hole in the first intermission.
Despite a second period that was almost all Colonels, Sohner stood tall in net to stop everything that came her way, keeping the deficit at just two heading into the final frame.
Unfortunately for the Blazers, two goals for Wilkes in the first five minutes of the third would essentially put the game out of reach, and the Colonels would manage to get one more goal 10 minutes later to finish off Hood's 5-0 defeat.
For the Opponent
Hannah Franz scored the game-winning goal.
Audrey Milne stopped five shots in the shutout.
Notes
Hood drops to 2-5 (0-5) on the season, while Wilkes improves to 4-3 (3-2).
