WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – A high-scoring affair did not go the Hood College women's ice hockey team's way, as the Blazers fell 7-1 to Middle Atlantic Conference opponent Wilkes in the second of two weekend games.
Inside the Box Score
Reece Gall (Niagara Falls, N.Y./St. Mary's of Lancaster) scored Hood's lone goal.
Hayley Turnbull (Tantallon, NS, CA/Mount Academy) turned aside 65 shots.
How it Happened
Wilkes started off the game hot, keeping the puck in Hood's zone and peppering shots on goal, managing to break the ice just over four minutes in.
The Blazers looked to be on the back foot as they found themselves on the penalty kill a few minutes later, but a shot from
Averi Reider (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion Area) was deflected right onto the stick of Gall, who put it away for a shorthanded tally to tie the game.
Unfortunately, the momentum did not last long for Hood, as the Colonels got back in front a couple minutes later and potted one more with less than a minute in the period to put the visitors in a 3-1 hole heading into the first intermission.
The second period started off hot for Wilkes and compounded with a couple Blazers penalties that allowed the Colonels to pepper the goal, eventually getting a shot past Turnbull for a 4-1 advantage after 40 minutes of play.
Hood ended the second period on the penalty kill, and Wilkes capitalized right out of the gate, scoring just 33 seconds into the period. Two more goals from the Colonels would close out the scoring for the game, sending the Blazers home with a 7-1 defeat.
For the Opponent
Nina Hudáková finished the game with two goals and an assist.
Jordan Ferry netted two goals.
