GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Hood College women's ice hockey team could not keep up with the offense of Middle Atlantic Conference Opponent Arcadia, failing to find the back of the net in a 4-0 loss.
Inside the Box Score
Hayley Turnbull (Tantallon, NS, CA/Mount Academy) made 17 saves in the first period.
Kamryn Sohner (Hilliard, Oh./Sunnyvale) came in at the start of the second period and finished the game with 37 saves across two shutout periods.
How it Happened
Arcadia started the game off strong with a flurry of shots, including four in 23 seconds, but Turnbull turned aside everything thrown at her.
The shutout would not last very far past the halfway mark of the period though, as the Knights managed to score twice in nine seconds to suddenly take control of the game.
Down two goals already, Hood ran into penalty trouble with less than five minutes in the period as the Blazers found themselves in a 3-on-5 penalty kill situation. Unfortunately, Arcadia managed to capitalize on both power plays to give themselves a 4-0 lead after the first period.
Hood managed to find some offensive zone time to start the second period, but good positioning from the Knights' defense only allowed one to get through on goal. Arcadia went back on offense shortly after, but Sohner kept the ice behind her unscathed even through more Knights' power plays, keeping it 4-0 heading into the final frame.
The Blazers had little time to think about getting on the board to start the third period, as Arcadia got off another handful of shots in the first two minutes. Sohner kept everything out of harms way though, allowing Hood to break out and get past the other team's blue line.
Although Hood managed to get a power play just over five minutes in, they were unable to convert the opportunity and could not stay in the offensive zone enough to apply enough pressure for a goal, as the buzzer sounded to hand them their second straight loss.
For the Opponent
Phoebe Roberts scored two goals in the win.
Hannah Bergeron made eight saves and was credited with an assist in the shutout.
Notes
The Blazers fall to 2-2 (0-2), while the Knights improve to 4-0 (2-0).
