NORTH ADAMS, Ma. – The Hood College women's ice hockey team could not take advantage of an early lead in the weekend's second game against Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, falling 2-1 in overtime.
Inside the Box Score
Dakota Ormiston (Scituate, Ma./Portsmouth Abbey) scored Hood's lone goal of the day.
Kamryn Sohner (Hilliard, Oh./Sunnyvale) made 29 saves.
How it Happened
The Blazers started the game looking for revenge for the previous day's loss, striking first when Ormiston notched her first collegiate goal from a tough angle shot. Both squads exchanged quality chances for the rest of the period, but nothing else found the back of the net as Hood went into the first intermission ahead 1-0.
After killing off the rest of an MCLA power play to start the second, the Blazers looked to double their lead as they found themselves with back-to-back power plays. Unfortunately, a turnover in the offensive zone led to a shorthanded breakaway chance for the Trailblazers' Summer Bissaillion, which she capitalized on to tie the game at one.
MCLA completed the penalty kill shortly after their goal, and nothing else went behind either team's goal line as they headed into the second intermission knotted 1-1.
Sohner stood tall in net in the third period, at one point stopping six shots in one minute of play to keep things even, but a last-second shot from Hood was blocked away as the game would have to be decided in overtime.
Once overtime started, it was all Trailblazers, as the Blazers were kept in their own zone for the entire 1:10 of the overtime period as MCLA eventually got a shot past Sohner to hand Hood another 2-1 defeat.
For the Opponent
Bissaillion scored both goals for the Trailblazers.
Kaitlyn O'Brien stopped 25 shots.
