Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball collars Pitt.-Greensburg in weekend sweep.

High-octane offense and shutdown defense lifted the Hood College baseball team to a weekend sweep over the Pitt.-Greensburg Bobcats, as the Blazers walked away with 19-5 and 11-0 victories.

At the Plate
Austin Rhue (Milton, Del./Cape Henlopen) went 4-6 across both games, drawing two walks and driving in three runs.

In game one, Keegan Brennan (Lake Wynonah, Pa./Nativity BVM) went 1-1 with two walks and four RBIs.

Sebastian Paz (Miami, Fla./Immaculata-La Salle) finished 3-4 in game two, scoring twice.

On the Mound
Tyler Cooney (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) and Joe Alexander (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) split pitching duties in game one, combining for eight hits and ten total strikeouts

Dutch DeProspero (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) had another lights-out performance, giving up just three hits and no runs while striking out five in six innings in the second game before Finn Scott-Daniels (Annandale, Va./Annandale) came in to close it by striking out all three batters he faced.

The Blazers got on the board quickly, with Stephen Sommer (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun) hitting a sacrifice fly to score Rhue, followed by Matt Stout grounding out to score Schwarzman.

Hood scored three more in second before the Bobcats got on the board in the top of the third inning to cut their lead to 6-2.

A three-run bottom of the third for the Blazers was capped off by a Sommer single that scored two.

Hood blew the game open in the fourth inning, getting six runners to go around to make it a 16-2 lead as Schwarzman capped off the inning by scoring off of a wild pitch.

Pitt-Greensburg got a few runs back in the fifth after a two-RBI triple from James Domer before a single scored him as well, but the Blazers got those runs back in the bottom of the inning to make it a 19-5 final.

Hood 11, Pitt-Greensburg 0
Although Hood could not get anyone across in the first inning as they did in the previous game, they managed to put three across in the second inning when a Cameron Day (Hagerstown, Md./Clear Spring) double got Paz across, with Day coming around to home after a
Jacob Saylor (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) fielder's choice, and Saylor and Richard Kershow (Eatons Neck, N.Y./Northport) stealing second and home simultaneously.

The Blazers scored once more in the third before putting the game away in the fifth, sending five runners around the diamond and getting through the entire lineup before recording their third out.

An error allowed Day to score one final time, and Scott-Daniels struck out the side in the top of the seventh to give Hood the weekend sweep.

For the Opponent
Domer batted 2-4 in game one, adding three RBIs to go with it.

Notes
The Blazers improve to 3-1 on the season, while the Bobcats open their regular season 0-2.
