FREDERICK, Md. – An offensive onslaught from the Hood College women's lacrosse team was no match for the visiting Russell Sage College, as the Blazers finished the game with a 15-4 victory heading into conference play.
Inside the Box Score
Julia Gregory (Sussex, N.J./Vernon Twp.) scored as many goals as the visiting team, tallying four goals and picking up a ground ball.
Mackenzie Demaio (Urbana, Md./Coronado (Calif.)) finished with a hat trick and one ground ball pickup.
Katy Przybocki (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) ended the afternoon with two goals, four ground balls, and a caused turnover.
Brooke Harper (Sykesville, Md./Century) was credited with the win, making eight saves before being subbed out for
Ellie Glawe (Mount Airy, Md./Linganore), who saved four shots of her own.
How it Happened
Hood got the offense started early as
Avery Stanley (Culpeper, Va./Eastern View) scored less than a minute in, followed closely by a tally from Demaio just 37 seconds later. Russell Sage did not roll over right away though, taking advantage of a Gregory green card to cut the Blazers' lead in half just a minute later.
The scoring slowed down a bit after that, but not too much for Hood, as they scored four more times to end the first quarter with a 6-1 lead.
Both teams seemed to want to slow the game down after the first quarter outburst, as the Gators got the first goal of the period with 6:44 remaining, but the Blazers answered right back just over two minutes later. That would be the final scoring of the half, as Hood went into the break with a 7-2 advantage.
The Blazers picked things back up coming out into the third quarter, scoring five goals in just over four minutes part way through, adding a sixth with just over a minute via Przybocki to start the 10-goal running clock rule going into the final frame ahead 13-2.
Russell Sage once again took advantage of a Hood green card, bringing their lead down to 13-3, but the Blazers scored twice to ensure the 10-goal rule stayed up even after a late goal from the Gators, bringing the 15-4 score to become final.
For the Opponent
Maddison Walter scored a goal, snagged five ground balls, and caused two turnovers.
