YORK, Pa. – The Hood College women's lacrosse team could not keep up with the scoring output of Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth opponent York (Pa.), as the Blazers fell 21-9 in their penultimate game of the season.
Inside the Box Score
Julia Gregory (Sussex, N.J./Vernon Twp.) scored a hat trick on the evening, winning six draw controls as well.
MacKenzi Wright (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) scored twice and added a helper for three total points, causing two turnovers.
Abby Burnette (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) led the team with three ground ball pickups.
How it Happened
York did not waste time getting on the board, putting one in the back of the net just 1:25 into the game, and did not stop the rest of the quarter, putting up a total of eight goals, including six in less than six minutes. Hood managed to avoid being shutout in the quarter though, with a Gregory tally with 39 seconds left got the Blazers on the board.
Hood answered an early Spartans goal in the second quarter with two of their own, but York responded with three more goals in less than two minutes.
Olivia Pickett (Mount Airy, Md/Linganore High School) gave the Blazers their second goal of the quarter, but the Spartans put up another three-spot to put Hood in a 15-4 deficit heading into halftime.
It seemed York had no intention of slowing down, potting another goal just over a minute into the third quarter, but back-to-back goals from Hood gave the Spartans something to think about before they answered with back-to-backs of their own a few minutes later.
Mackenzie Demaio (Urbana, Md./Coronado (Calif.)) put one more past the goalie for the Blazers before the buzzer to give the team a sizable 18-7 disadvantage for the final frame.
Another pair of goals from York gave them 20 on the day, and both teams exchanged goals halfway through the quarter with Wright sneaking one final shot past the Spartans' goalie to make it a 21-9 final in favor of the home team.

Zoe Kluegel led York with five goals and six points.
Gianna Huet ended the game with four goals.
