READING, Pa. – A solid offensive outing from the Hood College baseball team was not enough to get the win against Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth opponent Albright, as the Blazers fell 14-7.
On the Mound
Skylar Albright (Hendersonville, N.C./) dropped his first decision of the year, allowing six earned runs off eight hits.
At the Plate
Keegan Brennan (Lake Wynonah, Pa./Nativity BVM) batted 4-5 on the day, drawing a walk as well.
Jacob Saylor (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) hit a three-run home run and got a free base after being hit by a pitch.
Cameron Day (Hagerstown, Md./Clear Spring) finished the evening 2-4 with a walk and an RBI.
How it Happened
Hood got the bats going early, putting up a run in both the first and second innings, but Albright got two runners across home in the bottom of the second to quickly tie things up.
The Lions took the lead with a solo home run in the bottom of the third, and even though the Blazers had the bases loaded with just one out in the fourth, they were unable to push anyone across.
After Hood went down in order to start the fifth, Albright did the opposite and got their first three hitters on base, eventually getting each of them to touch home and putting the visiting Blazers in a 6-2 hole.
Things looked like they were changing for the better for Hood in the seventh inning after they got their first five batters on base and had two of them take home for free. Unfortunately, what looked like a
Tyler Schwarzman (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) sacrifice fly into left field turned into a double play when Day could not make it home, with the next batter unable to get the ball out of the infield to end the threat.
While the Blazers had shrunk their deficit to just two, the Lions' bats woke up to put the game away, driving home five runners and giving Hood a daunting 11-4 disadvantage.
Although the Blazers managed to get three more runs on the board in the eighth, Albright would match that before shutting them out in the top of the ninth to end the game 14-7 in favor of the Lions.
For the Opponent
Chris Gorla ended the game 3-4 with a home run, a triple, and five RBIs.
Brenden Stuhltrager hit 4-5 with a double two RBIs.
Notes
Hood falls to 21-15 (10-9), while Albright improves to 11-23 (5-14).
