FREDERICK, Md. – A late surge from Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth opponent Messiah University put the Hood College baseball team on ice, handing the Blazers a 15-3 conference defeat.
At the Plate
Jack Patterson (Boyds, Md./Northwest) got a hit and drove in two runs in his one official pinch-hit appearance.
On the Mound
Joe Alexander (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) started on the mound and received his first loss of the season but gave up just three earned runs while striking out four batters in six innings of play.
How it Happened
After a scoreless first inning, both teams managed to get on the board in the second, but Messiah quickly added three more to their total in the third to put Hood at a 4-1 disadvantage.
That would be the total until the bottom of the sixth inning, when
Keegan Brennan (Lake Wynonah, Pa./Nativity BVM) was able to score from second after a deep single from Patterson to cut their deficit to 4-2.
The Falcons would answer back with a run in the seventh inning, but any hope of the Blazers coming back was put away after the brakes fell off in the sixth inning, with Messiah sending six runners around the diamond.
Hood managed to get one more runner across in the bottom of the eighth, but a four-run ninth inning for the Falcons put the game away for good, handing the Blazers a 15-3 loss at home.
For the Opponent
Evan Wagaman went 3-6 with a home run and four RBIs.
