How it Happened
After a tightly contested first set saw the points read 11-9 in favor of Gallaudet, the Bison would go on an 11-1 run to take a commanding lead they would not relinquish despite Hood's best efforts to start a rally of their own, putting the home team at the match disadvantage going into set two.
Despite the Blazers holding a slight 10-8 lead with kills from
Mary LeBlanc (Suffolk, Va/Stonebridge) and
Isabelle Garrett (Fluvanna, Va./Fluvanna), Gallaudet would catch fire once again to retake the lead and put Hood at a 23-14 disadvantage. Even though the Blazers managed to get a 7-1 run going to try and tie the match, a serve out of the back boundary put Hood in danger of being swept at home.
The Blazers had to battle in the third set, as they managed to stay within three points for the most part before the Bison jumped out to a 22-15 lead as they looked to win the set and match. However, as this is a game of runs, Hood went on an 8-2 run to take it to 24-23. Unfortunately, after a longer-than-usual rally, the ball ended up falling on the Blazers' side of the court, completing the sweep for Gallaudet.
For the Opponent
Brielle Worley led the Bison with 19 kills and five aces.
Ella Gamble had a team-leading 31 assists.
