SALEM, Va. – A defense-heavy game did not fall the Hood College field hockey team's way, as an early second-quarter goal from Roanoke College was enough to hand the Blazers a 1-0 loss in non-conference play.

How it Happened
The first quarter started off hot, as both teams exchanged flurries of shots. None found the back of the net though, and the horn sounded for the first intermission with zeroes on the scoreboard.
Roanoke's offense worked quickly to start the second quarter, getting enough pressure on Hood's defense to get their first shot of the period in the back of the net to open the scoring. The Maroons would get another shot on goal, but a save from Brown kept the Blazers' deficit to just 1-0 at halftime.
Neither team could find any momentum to start the third, and despite a surge of energy from Hood after a defensive save from Chiavetta, they were unable to get anything past Roanoke's goalie, heading into the final frame still searching for an equalizer.
The Maroons looked to double their lead after getting a penalty corner less than two minutes into the fourth quarter, but the Blazers were able to clear it out. Although they managed to get their own offensive pressure a few minutes later, their shot attempts were blocked and cleared away, with the team unable to get anymore good chances before the final buzzer sounded.
