How it Happened
Hood looked unstoppable out of the gate, racing out to a 20-9 lead seemingly in the blink of an eye. Although York looked like they were going to try to make a comeback, cutting the Blazers' lead to 24-18, a quick kill from
Cam Madden (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring) ended things in favor of Hood.
The momentum seemed to switch to start the second set, as York got off to a 6-2 advantage. The Blazers battled back though, hitting an 8-4 run to suddenly take the lead. After the Spartans tied it once again, the two squads became locked in a tight battle until the score was 20 apiece, at which point York scored five of the next seven points to tie the match up 1-1.
Both sides were even in set three once again, exchanging runs midway through for a 17-14 York lead. Hood tied the game at 18, but were unable to reclaim the lead or tie it again before the Spartans hit 25 to take the set and a 2-1 match lead.
Despite coming out flatter than usual for the fourth set, the Blazers mounted a rally to come back to an 11-10 advantage before the two teams began going back and forth with scoring once again. With Hood holding a 19-17 lead, the Spartans managed to put together a 7-1 run to take control of the set, ultimately finishing things off and handing the Blazers a conference-opening loss.
