FREDERICK, Md. – The Hood College men's soccer team did not get the result they were hoping for in their first game on home turf, as Goucher College tallied a goal in each half to defeat the Blazers 2-0 in non-conference action.
Inside the Box Score
Nick Humphries (Potomac, Md./Potomac) made four saves on the night.
How it Happened
Goucher's offense showed up as quickly as you can possibly get with a shot that dinged off the post. The Gophers kept up the pressure with more attempts that Humphries would make saves on, but in the 24th minute they finally managed to put one past him as Jonathan Alvarado managed to get just enough space for a decent shot in the box.
The Blazers managed to keep Goucher's offense at bay the rest of the half, but were unable to do much with their attack, heading into halftime down 1-0.
Hood managed to sustain some offense early in the second half, but it would be the Gophers who got on the scoresheet again just 10 minutes into the period when another shot off the post stayed alive and allowed the visiting team to keep enough pressure and find the back of the net.
In the 72nd minute the Blazers had some great chances and set pieces with back-to-back corners, but the opposing goalkeeper was up to the task, knocking away each attempt and then making one final stop in the 84th minute to preserve the shutout and his team's victory.
For the Opponent
Ale Sternini made three saves in the shutout.
Alvarado and Aquila De Carvalho both netted a goal.
