Women’s ice hockey outshined by Golden Wolves

HAGERSTOWN, Md. – The Hood College women's ice hockey team could not complete a comeback against Middle Atlantic Conference opponent Alvernia, falling 7-3 at home.
Inside the Box Score
Kamryn Sohner (Hilliard, Oh./Sunnyvale) made 35 saves before being replaced by Emily Warren (Nepean, ON, CA/St. Joseph's Catholic Secondary), who stopped six shots.

Sofie Ancona (Grosse Point Farms, Mi./University Liggett) notched a goal and an assist.

Olivia Sharkoski (Bradenton, Fl./Lakewood Ranch) netted her first collegiate goal.

How it Happened
Hood was forced to start on the back foot in the third game of the week, as Alvernia's Moa Lagh scored her first career goal after a shot from the point found the back of the net just over two minutes in.

Less than five minutes later, the Blazers found themselves in a 3-0 hole as the Golden Wolves managed to score twice in 1:15, and Hood looked like it may be out of it from the start.

The Blazers were unfazed by the deficit though, as Caroline Kittell (Louisville, Ky./Rice Prep) sent a perfect pass onto the stick of Astrid Wilbur (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac), who then beat her defender and hit the back of the net to put Hood on the board.

After another flurry of shots from Alvernia, the Blazers found themselves in the offensive zone again, and after Savannah Potratz (Jamestown, N.D./Jamestown) won a battle for the puck against the boards, she found Ancona wide open in the slot, where she would pot her sixth goal of the season and cut Hood's lead to just 3-2 at the end of the first period.

The second period also had a rocky start for the Blazers, as the Golden Wolves notched another goal 5:55 into the frame to restore their multi-goal lead, but a breaking Sharkoski managed to just get aroud a defender and deke the goalie to bring
Alvernia's lead back down to one. Although Hood would get a power play towards the end of the period, they were unable to capitalize on the advantage and headed into the locker room trailing 4-3.

Unfortunately for the home crowd, the Blazers were unable to get that elusive tying goal, as the Golden Wolves would score three times in the third to put the game away for good, handing Hood a 7-3 loss.

For the Opponent
Stephanie Skorupa made 15 saves.

Emma Hart and Khenzie Connick both ended the game with a goal and an assist.

Notes
The Blazers drop to 3-11-0 (1-9-0), while the Golden Wolves improve to 9-4-1 (5-4-1).
