Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey | | Joel White, Graduate Assistant

Women’s ice hockey stopped by Flying Dutchmen

HERSHEY, Pa. - The Hood College women's ice hockey team were unable to get past the defense of Middle Atlantic Conference opponent Lebanon Valley College, as the Blazers fell 3-0 on the road.

Inside the Box Score
Maggie Grijalva (Fullerton, Ca./El Dorado) made 40 saves on the evening.

How it Happened
The Flying Dutchmen wasted no time getting offensive pressure, outshooting the Blazers 10-4 after just 10 minutes of play. This pressure eventually caused trouble for Hood, as a loose puck in front of the net was hacked at by LVC players before squeaking over the goal line to give the home Flying Dutchmen an early 1-0 lead.

It looked like the Blazers would get both a break from the LVC attack and a chance to score of their own as they earned themselves a power play a few minutes later, but a shorthanded chance for Cheyenne Wilk was put away for her second goal of the game, putting Hood in a 2-0 hole and killing off the rest of the penalty before the horn sounded to end the first period.

Grijalva again held her own against another rush of shots to start the second, and although the Blazer defense did not allow a goal on the penalty kill, the continuous offense from the Flying Dutchmen eventually broke through enough to score once more to make it a 3-0 game.

Although the rest of the second and all of the third period went without incident, Hood was not able to break through on any of their remaining chances to get themselves on the board and potentially spark a comeback, as the final buzzer sounded on a 3-0 loss for the Blazers.

For the Opponent
Wilk scored twice in the game.

Mia Frisoni stopped 13 shots in the shutout.

Notes
The Blazers drop to 3-12 (1-10), while the Flying Dutchmen improve to 10-4-1 (7-3-1).
