Women's Ice Hockey loses late bout against Dutchmen

HAGERSTOWN, Md. - The women's ice hockey challenged the third place Dutchmen through the first two periods but were snakebitten by the power play and fell to Lebanon Valley 6-2 on Friday night.

Inside the Box Score

Sophie Ancona had a goal and an assist on the day.
Dakota Ormiston (Scituate, Ma./Portsmouth Abbey) scored her goal in the third period.
Kamryn Sohner (Hilliard, Oh./Sunnyvale) made 46 saves on the day.

How it Happened

The game started fast for the Blazers as within a minute and half of play Leela Nemani of LVC tracked a puck that bounced off the ice high up in the air and her swing found puck to go up 1-0.

The Dutchman were able to keep shots on goal coming but Sohner made good work of her shin pads to combat the heavy fire.

With Lebanon Valley keeping themselves on the attack, the Blazers would show their offense via intercepted passed at center ice and using the breakaway to get good shots up. 12:00 is an example.

Hood escaped the power play both times in the first between the squeeze in the defense in the middle and the play of Sohner.

With a second period underway, the Blazers created more offensive opportunities and finally found daylight. It looked like a defensive skater caught the back skate of Ancona, but she retained balance, and her shot deflected off the pad off the goalie and underneath the top corner for the equalizer.

Shortly after, a tie up with the puck left the Dutchman's Campanile open and she broke the tie after 29 seconds.

The teams battled for the first five minutes of third with clean hockey, until a Blazer penalty left another power play to behead.

This time the dam broke as a shot deflected off the chest of Sohner and was cleaned up by LVC's Howson to extend the lead 3-1. Another penalty resulted in another goal via a high wrister that rose above the skaters and underneath the bar for LVC's fourth.

Dakota Ormiston (Scituate, Ma./Portsmouth Abbey) notched her second career goal late after she pickpocketed a scrum in front of the crease and cashed in on the open net.

For the Opponent

Anna Dale assisted on three goals.

The Dutchman had four players with one goal and one assist.
