WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The women's ice hockey team wrapped up their season series against King's with a back-and-forth affair going into the third period but fell 3-2 on Saturday night in the Revolution Ice Center.
Inside the Box Score
Reece Gall (Niagara Falls, N.Y./St. Mary's of Lancaster) had a goal on two shots on goal.
Olivia Sharkoski (Bradenton, Fl./Lakewood Ranch) scored a goal on one shot on goal.
Dakota Ormiston (Scituate, Ma./Portsmouth Abbey) had two blocks.
Hayley Turnbull (Tantallon, NS, CA/Mount Academy) had 28 saves.
How it Happened
Off the faceoff in the attacking zone won by Bynan, a pass around the boards made the compact defense of the Monarchs dilute. Bynan's pass off the boards behind the goal ricocheted beside goal to find Sharkoski to punch in the 1-0.
King's would strike on an intercepted pass in Hood's defensive zone as a little stick work would create a shot and save for Turnbull, but the rebound by King's Lucy Beal would find net.
Later on the attack, the Monarchs would make a dangerous cross ice pass that would find Sokol and with her open space, she lined up a clean shot to the upper right to gain the lead.
The second period would not end without a breakaway by Petrella winning her matchup at center ice and taking the puck one-on-one towards the net before being taken out and sliding across the ice into the boards. She would then get up to cause havoc in front of the net, just enough for Gall to gain possession of the loose puck and score from point blank.
The Blazers would earn a penalty with less than nine to go in the third period. A failed clear on the power play resulted on a shot by a Monarch attacker rushing in and then Barlocker finishing with the scoop of the back of the stick and off the back of Turnbull to score.
Hood fought for possession but could cash in as their retention of the puck was hindered by the pesky Monarch defense. Another hard-fought match for the Blazers, and another nod that they can hang with a conference opponent with experience.
For the Opponent
Ani Quindipan had an assist and three blocked shots on the day.
