HAGERSTOWN, Md. – The Hood College women's ice hockey team were unable to solve Middle Atlantic Conference opponent Alvernia's defense, falling 3-0 in conference action.
Inside the Box Score
Maggie Grijalva (Fullerton, Ca./El Dorado) made 48 saves.
How it Happened
Hood had the first good rush of the day, having solid offensive zone time for the first minute of play. Unfortunately, Alvernia's first offensive attack would prove to be a little better, as Kathryn Palmer snuck a shot just behind Grijalva from the side of the net to put the Blazers in a 1-0 hole early.
Grijalva would stop the rest of the shots she faced in the period, and with a flurry of chances for Hood with under a minute left, the Blazers went into the first intermission feeling like a goal was coming.
Despite maintaining offensive pressure early in the second period, a blocked shot suddenly became a breakaway opportunity for the Golden Wolves' Emma Hart, who capitalized on the chance and gave Alvernia a 2-0 lead they would take into the second intermission.
Both teams had good chances for the first half of the final frame, but two penalties on Hood allowed the Golden Wolves to pile on the pressure, and their efforts would come to fruition just as the Blazers got back to full strength, extending their lead to 3-0 where it would stay the rest of the game.
For the Opponent
Stephanie Skorupa made 17 saves in the shutout.
Notes
The Blazers drop to 3-10-0 (1-8-0), while the Golden Wolves improve to 8-4-1 (4-4-1).
