FREDERICK Md.- The Hood College field hockey team met a formidable opponent in the Falcons of Messiah University on Wednesday afternoon, falling 8-1 in the match.

Kate Haufe (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) had the sole goal for the Blazers.
Madeline Moreno (Mansfield, N.J./Warren Hills Regional) had five defensive saves in the contest.
Grace Guy (Mechanicsville, Md./Chopticon) and

How It Happened
The Falcons earned a penalty corner early into the match and fired off a shot that
Madeline Moreno (Mansfield, N.J./Warren Hills Regional) made a defensive save on and stopped the potential goal.
Grace Guy (Mechanicsville, Md./Chopticon) on the same possession made another save for the Blazers in goal, but the third attempt by the Falcons found the back of the net to make it 1-0 over the Blazers.
Messiah would continue the offensive attack on Hood, adding two more goals to end the first quarter, to make it 3-0.
With a minute into the second quarter,
Morgan Hackett (Hampstead, Md./Hereford) looked to stop the bleeding for the Blazers and fired off a shot but was saved.
Hood would earn a penalty corner that was taken by
Sydney Fleming (Fredericksburg, Va./Courtland), after the Hackett shot attempt.
Fleming would find teammate
Ellie Dainton (Mays Landing, NJ./Saint Joseph Academy) who took a shot at the goal, and off the ricochet would find
Kate Haufe (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) who cut into the lead to make 3-1.
The Falcons sensing the Blazers momentum would look to extend the lead with two shots of their own but were stopped first by
Abby Chiavetta (San Jose, Calif./Leland), and then teammate
Madeline Moreno (Mansfield, N.J./Warren Hills Regional), who both earned a defensive save on the attempts.
Shortly after the Blazers strong defensive stand, the Falcons would respond to extend their lead to 4-1.
Feeling confident with the lead, the Falcons would continue to press forward with two more shots, but
Grace Guy (Mechanicsville, Md./Chopticon) would deny both attempts .
Messiah wouldn't let up, adding two more goals heading into the half, to make it 6-1.
Despite the lead, the Blazers continued to battle throughout the second half, but the Falcons would net two more goals to end the contest.
For the Opponent
Olivia Zaskoda had three goals for the Falcons.
Aubrey Clark and Audrey Weger both netted a pair of goals.
Naomi Lyter added a goal in the match.
Analysis
Messiah led Hood in shots 28-6.
The Falcons also held the advantage in saves 10-2, and edged Hood in penalty corners 7-4.
