FREDERICK, Md. – The men's soccer team tangoed with conference foe York College of Pennsylvania and after a tight first half the Spartans pulled away to take the match 3-0 at Thomas Athletic Field on Wednesday night.
Inside the Box Score
Damiano Laduca (Stephen City, Va./Sherando) and
Landon Norcross (Mechanicsville, Md./Chopticon) each registered a shot on goal.
Adam Labows (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) recorded three acrobatic saves on the evening.
How it Happened
It was clear that the Spartans were going to be popular in the attacking zone. Just nine minutes into the game a ball lofted into the box found the head Huey of York but Labows handled the redirection with a swat. The ball still found another attacker who found net but luckily for the Blazers the Spartan attacker was offside negating the goal.
Luck ran out just four minutes later, a through ball that snuck behind the backs of the Blue & Grey defenders, this time at the feet of Huey and his kick deflected off Labows and bounced in goal to break the tie.
Later, a turnover at midfield led to a York field flip and the strategy left the ball nicely packaged for a trailing center back and he hit a screamer with top-right bend that found net to double the deficit for the Blazers.
Immediately, the Blazers created some offense off free kicks just past midfield, those crosses finding the attackman but just off the mark.
York controlled the sidelines, making it difficult for Hood's wheels to ignite into explosive plays.
Hood saw an uptick in shots in the second half, but were outmatched by 20 sets of fresh legs that the opposition sent out in fleets.
Hood with 12 players coming off the bench contributed valuable minutes and created a different tempo for the squad at times with physical play and hard-fought fouls.
Notes
Hood falls to 9-3-2, 2-1-1 in conference and now sits in third place with their win percentage still ahead of the Spartans.
York improves to 7-4-5, also 2-1-1 in conference and will take fourth place.
