Women’s Soccer outraced by Mustangs

OWINGS MILLS, Md – The Hood College women's soccer team went on the road Wednesday night against the Mustangs of Stevenson University falling 1-0 in the match.

Sara Yeich (Middletown, PA/Middletown Area) had two shots in the contest. 
 
Ashley Stine (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) made three saves in goal for the Blazers. 

How it Happened

 
The Blazers needed a win to stay in playoff contention in a pivotal matchup against the Mustangs. 
 
Stevenson would strike first as Colleen Fanning found the back of the net to give the Mustangs a 1-0 advantage.  
 
Hood looked to respond with a shot by McKenna Bishop (Johnson City, Tenn./Mount Hebron (Md.)) to even the score but missed high of the goal.
 
The Blazers stayed on the attack as Sara Yeich (Middletown, PA/Middletown Area) fired a shot but was unable to connect with the goal.
 
Headed into the break, the Blazers aimed to even the playing field and stay competitive against the Mustangs.
 
Early into the second half, Stevenson pressed to widen the gap against Hood with an attempt on goal but Ashley Stine (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) stepped up with a clutch save that kept the Blazers in the fight.  
 
Hood ramped up the pressure on Stevenson as Yeich attempted a shot towards the net, but the Mustangs goalkeeper responded quickly and denied any chance.  
 
Not long after, Kiley O'Grady (Frederick, Md/Oakdale) tried a shot, but Stevenson's keeper held firm and kept the scoreboard unchanged.
 
Hood would stand tall and fight till the final horn sounded against Stevenson, but the Mustangs held the Blazers off to the very end of regulation.  
 
For the Opponent  
 
Colleen Fanning had the Mustangs sole goal. 
 
Isabella Serano had two saves in the match.
 
Analysis  
 
The Mustangs had the advantage over the Blazers in shots 7-5.  
 
Stevenson edged Hood in corner kicks 3-2, while Hood led in saves, 3-2. 

Notes

 
Hood falls to 4-11-2 overall, and 1-4-1 in conference play, also making the Blazers mathematically eliminated from MAC playoff contention.  
 
Stevenson improved to 8-4-5 overall, and 4-2 in conference play.
