FREDERICK, Md. – Penn State Harrisburg did not let the Hood College women's volleyball team honor seniors
Ann Ofoegbu (Falling Waters, W.Va./Spring Mills) and
Anna Daley (Erie, Pa./Harborcreek), sweeping the Blazers 3-0 in straight sets.
Set Scores
The Nittany Lions won 25-11, 25-8, 25-22.
Inside the Box Score
Ofoegbu led the team with seven kills and nine digs.
Maria Ricketts (Adamstown, Md./New Life Christian) ended the afternoon with 16 assists.
How it Happened
Hood started the match off well with Ofoegbu serving up an ace and
Skylar Plante (Big Pool, Md./Clear Spring) getting the next kill. That was where the momentum ended for the Blazers though, as Penn State Harrisburg took the next eight straight points and never looked back, earning a double digit 15-5 lead and keeping its foot on the gas to put Hood behind 1-0 in the match.
After falling behind early in the second set, a kill from
Isabelle Garrett (Fluvanna, Va./Fluvanna) cut the Blazers' deficit to 9-4, but it was all Nittany Lions after that with the visitors going on a 10-1 run for a 19-5 advantage, then taking six of the last eight points to put Hood in danger of being swept.
Down to their last set, the Blazers managed to keep their head up and stay with Penn State Harrisburg early thanks in part to
Mary LeBlanc's (Suffolk, Va/Stonebridge) kill that tied things up at 5. After the Nittany Lions got four kills in a row, an 11-2 run from Hood sent the Senior
Day crowd into a frenzy. The celebration would not last long though, as Penn State Harrisburg would answer right back to tie things 20-20. Despite Ofoegbu breaking the tie with a kill, the Nittany Lions scored five of the next six points to stifle the Blazers' comeback before it could get started.
For the Opponent
Camryn Wettstone had the most kills for Penn State Harrisburg with 13.
Nicole Dos Santos had six aces.
