Inside the Box Score

Yarbrough scored 23 points with nine rebounds and four assists.

Jude Huseby (Frederick, Md./Urbana) entered the chat with 15 points and shot 5-of-8 from the field.

Garrett Cox (Glen Allen, VA/Glen Allen) played the role needed grabbing 10 boards and going 5-for-6 from the foul line.

How it Happened

The game today was an experience by the Green Terror, instead of matching the high tempo, they slowed down the game to prevent the high speed drag race.

Huseby scored the first few buckets for the Blue & Grey driving to the basket– a switch from the trio from the day before stealing the show via the long ball. After the first couple attempts from outside the arc, the blueprint for the day was laid out.

The Green Terror ate at the shot clock, each possession showing no urgency to find the bucket until the open man showed himself with less than five seconds to go.

Nothing really allowed the game to pick up speed, between turnovers and whistles the teams shared buckets but stayed in the middle ground with the momentum staying put.

The score sat 43-36 at half after McDaniel went on a 7-2 run to end the first half including a couple of steals and a Hood turnover.

The second half Blazer defense had more patience, less angst in waiting for the right time to make a play and more close out in crunch time. The success could only hold off the Green Terror so long before the five-minute scoreless drought for the boys from Frederick gave the host the one-point lead.

Shortly after Yarbrough knocked down four free throws to swing the lead back and Troy Fulton's (Denver, N.C./Lincoln Charter) triple from the corner started the breakaway to put Hood back in their regular position. Nine straight points from Yarbrough reminded the award committee of his performance in the tournament and the Blazers slowly made their way to the cup at the final buzzer.

"Another game this season where we start on defense just going through the motions," said head coach Chad Dickman. "The improvement in the second half was great to see and even though we have a ways to go on that end, it was good to be able to win a game that was more slow-paced and outside our typical style."

Notes

The Blazers hit all 12 of their free throws in the second half.

Hood only hit seven threes on the day and relied on the 34 points earned via the paint.
