Men's Basketball stays undefeated with win over Marymount

ARLINGTON, Va. – The men's basketball squad earns their fifth-straight win with a driver seat victory over Marymount on the road 80-62. The 5-0 start is the longest streak for the program since the 2019-20 season.

Inside the Box Score

Karron Mallory (Manchester, Pa./Northeastern) shot 7-for-11 on the night with a team lead 18 points tonight.
Jude Huseby (Frederick, Md./Urbana) continued his versatile play with 12 points, four steals and three assists.
Kullen Robinson (Alexandria, Va./Alexandria City) finished with 12 points on six rebounds.

How it Happened

The Blazers denied access to the paint from the jump and forced the Saints to cough up the rock on their first three possessions. Robinson went to work on the fastbreak and scored the first six points at the rack and the line.

After an early timeout, both teams sputtered with a scoring drought due to contact at the bucket but no reward for Marymount while Hood was denied at the rim during multiple occasions.

Beyond the arc was quiet as the home squad smothered play by guards up top, forcing the Blue & Grey to work down the lane for the first ten minutes. Another night where the three ball created the distance in score, Troy Fulton (Denver, N.C./Lincoln Charter) broke the seal with a three pointer in close quarters and then three other Blazers would hit threes to break the Saint's gameplan down the stretch in the first half.

The likes of Huseby and Linton just filled space inside the arc, creating uncomfortable offensive possessions for the opposition while they were looking for their big man in the middle but he was met with a body every time he turned around.

Hood came out in the second half throwing the ball into coverage up high but retaining possession and returning it to a back door cut down low to score. The heat was kept on and outpaced their opponent to continue their success to start the season.

"I think we are starting to turn the corner defensively, we played really disciplined and stuck to our principles," said head coach Chad Dickman. "and I think that forced Marymount take a lot of shots that weren't ideal for them. We were much more active on the defensive end tonight and got a ton of deflections, which really helped out."

Analysis

Hood shot 50 percent from beyond the arc and shot 80 percent from the line compared to Marymount's 23 percent.

For the Opponent

Avery Oduro-Dompreh finished with six blocks and four assists.
