CRESSON, Pa. – A close second set was not enough to spark a reverse sweep for the Hood College men's volleyball team, as the Blazers fell to Mount Aloysius College 3-0 in non-conference play.
Set Scores
The Mounties won 25-17, 25-22, 25-17.
Inside the Box Score
Charles Casas (Rehoboth Beach, Del./Cape Henlopen High School) led Hood with 10 kills and two aces.
Gael Bravo (Lanham, Md./Bowie High School) totaled 11 assists in the match.
Jayceon White (Milton, Del./Cape Henlopen) dug out 12 attacks.
How it Happened
The Blazers took an early 2-1 lead in the first set after a service error and kill from Bravo, but could not expand on the lead, going back-and-forth with the Mounties. With the score tied at 8-8, Mount Aloysius went on a 6-1 run to take the set's first decent
lead, and Hood had no answer for it, scoring twice in a row only once more the rest of the set before falling behind 1-0 in the match.
Set two got off to a better start for the Blazers as they took an early 5-2 lead, but yet another 6-1 run by the Mounties put the visiting team behind once again. Hood quickly took the lead back, building up a three-point buffer before entering another point exchange with Mount Aloysius. As the Blazers held a slight 21-20 lead, the Mounties went on a devastating 5-1 run to steal the set and put Hood on sweep watch.
It was a rocky start to the third set for the Blazers, as Mount Aloysius put them in an early 6-3 hole and looked like they would quickly complete the sweep. Hood had other plans though, as it went on a massive eight-point run a few rallies later to take a decent lead of their own. Unfortunately, it felt as though the Blazers used up the rest of their energy for that run, as they would only take four more points the rest of the set as the Mounties stormed back to complete the 3-0 sweep.
For the Opponent
Andrew Wlodarcyzk finished with nine kills.
Evan Schmidt had 25 assists.
