Women’s ice hockey blinded by Golden Wolves

READING, Pa. – The Hood College women's ice hockey team could not figure out Middle Atlantic Conference opponent Alvernia's defense, failing to get on the board in a 4-0 loss on the road.

Inside the Box Score
Hayley Turnbull (Tantallon, NS, CA/Mount Academy) made 32 saves in the loss.

How it Happened
Hood had the game's only shot on goal for the first five minutes of play, but a tripping call just a few seconds later gave Alvernia a chance to strike after starting on the back foot. The Golden Wolves only managed to get one shot on goal though as the
Blazers' penalty kill successfully held them from anymore scoring chances. The next several minutes were all Alvernia though, as it poured shots on goal while Hood only managed a couple, eventually committing another penalty with just over three minutes in the period.

The Golden Wolves would not waste their second power play of the game, scoring 50 seconds into it after the first two shots were turned away and holding on to the 1-0 lead heading into the locker room.

The second period also did not start out the way the Blazers were hoping, as they were on the defensive for the first ten minutes after committing back-to-back penalties. Despite killing them both off and even drawing a power play of their own late in the second penalty kill, they could not convert on the ensuing 5-on-4. Alvernia would score soon after the power play ended to double their lead, finishing the frame ahead 2-0.

The start of the third period was quick for Hood, as Ancona had a shot that went wide just nine seconds in, but the Blazers once again failed to capitalize on the extended offensive pressure and were forced into playing 4-on-4 for a time after another penalty. A major penalty was given to Hood just after the midway point of the period, and although it managed to kill the five minutes of penalty time, the Golden Wolves scored less than a minute after it ended to make it a 3-0 game. Alvernia would add one more goal with less than 90 seconds left, sending the Blazers home with a 4-0 loss.

For the Opponent
Kathryn Palmer and Sydney Bradley both registered a goal and an assist.

Stephanie Skorupa saved 15 shots in the shutout.
