Softball drops final Florida games

WINTER HAVEN, Fl. - After the high-flying offense showcased in the previous day's games, the Hood College softball team could not find similar production in the final slate of Florida games, falling 10-1 to Curry College and 9-0 to University of Northwestern (MN) to round out their week at THE Spring Games.

At the Plate

Rebecca Gottleib (Linthicum, Md./North County) got Hood's lone hit in game one against Curry, driving in Kaelyn Blocher (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) for what would be their only run of the day.

In the Circle

Gottleib struck out three batters in the loss against Northwestern (MN).

Curry 10, Hood 1

The Colonels struck quickly, putting up four runs in just the first inning and forcing a quick pitching change.

Although the Blazers were able to get on the board in the third inning when Blocher was able to make it home after drawing a walk via a Gottleib double, that would be the only offense they could muster the rest of the game, as Curry scored in the remaining innings and did enough to enact the eight-run mercy rule in the fifth inning.

Northwestern (MN) 9, Hood 0

Game two of the day started off similarly to the first, with the Eagles scoring four times in their first time at the plate, not stopping to give the Blazers a chance to build any momentum. Although Hood held Northwestern off the scoresheet in the top of the fifth, it could plate any runs to stop the mercy rule from coming into play once again.

Up Next
The Blazers make the journey home for a doubleheader against Penn State Mont Alto Thursday, March 20 at 3 and 5 p.m., with game one being the Rotary Club of Carroll Creek Day game.
