ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – A late three-set rally from the Hood College men's volleyball team was cut short when it faced Middle Atlantic Conference opponent Eastern University, as the Blazers fell 3-0 on the road.
Set Scores
The Eagles won 25-16, 25-21, 29-27.
Inside the Box Score
Charles Casas (Rehoboth Beach, Del./Cape Henlopen High School) led Hood with 12 kills.
Gael Bravo (Lanham, Md./Bowie High School) ended the evening with 16 assists and nine digs.
Zander Kirchner (Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land) totaled two blocks.
How it Happened
Eastern got off to a hot start in the first set, leading 4-3 but going on a five-point run to take a substantial lead. Hood managed to get within five points a few times until midway through, with a 6-1 Eagles run to make it a 21-12 affair effectively icing things and putting the Blazers in a 1-0 match hole.
The second set started much better for Hood, as it was able to keep pace with Eastern and took advantage of early unforced errors to hold a 13-10 advantage. Kills from Bravo and
Blake Catts (Rehoboth Beach, Del./Cape Henlopen) pushed the lead to 16-12, but a sudden 8-1 run from the
Eagles flipped the script on the Blazers. Although they would manage to make it a 23-21 affair, Eastern would score the next two points to close out the set and put themselves in position to sweep.
Despite trailing as much as 8-4 to start set three, Hood fought back midway through to take a 15-14 edge; answering a three-point run from the Eagles with five straight of their own to make it 24-21 and potentially force a fourth set.
Unfortunately, Eastern would score the next three points to force an overtime period, and despite the Blazers going up 27-26, three straight points for the Eagles would end the comeback before it could start and complete the 3-0 sweep.
For the Opponent
Kaodi Wokocha led Eastern with 12 kills and 10 digs.
Josh Hrabosky finished with 14 assists.
