Men’s volleyball bucked by Mustangs

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Hood College men's volleyball team had no answer for Middle Atlantic Conference opponent Stevenson University's attack, falling in three straight sets on the road.

Set Scores
The Mustangs won 25-14, 25-11, 25-15.

Inside the Box Score
Blake Catts (Rehoboth Beach, Del./Cape Henlopen) led the Blazers with five kills.

Gael Bravo (Lanham, Md./Bowie High School) finished with eight assists.

How it Happened
Hood kept good pace with Stevenson to start the match, holding it to a 6-6 game before the Mustangs rattled off a 6-1 run to take a sizable advantage. Three straight points from the Blazers got them within two at 13-11, but Stevenson proceeded to score seven straight to put things out of reach and eventually go up 1-0 in the match score.

Set two saw Hood fall behind 11-3 right off the bat, and with the Blazers only managing to get back-to-back points one time later in the set, the Mustangs would put Hood in a 2-0 hole as they looked to complete the sweep.

With their backs against the wall in the third set, the Blazers came out hard, picking up a 4-2 early start for their first lead of the evening. Once the score was tied at 6-6, Hood could not keep up with Stevenson's offense, as the home team produced three runs of at least three points to jump ahead 18-11 late. Although the Blazers started to pick up some momentum to make it a 20-15 affair, the Mustangs would score five straight points to end any comeback hopes Hood may have had.

For the Opponent
Tanner Laukhuff and Adam DeRubertis both had 10 kills.

Kevin Kouchoukos led Stevenson with 29 assists.

Up Next
The Blazers take a trip to Chester, Pennsylvania for a tri-match against MAC opponent Widener and non-conference opponent Immaculata Saturday, March 29 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
