FREDERICK, Md. – The Hood College men's volleyball could not pull off the upset against No. 4 Stevens Institute of Technology, falling 3-0 in its final Middle Atlantic Conference match of the season.
Set Scores
The Ducks won 25-15, 25-12, 25-9.
Inside the Box Score
Charles Casas (Rehoboth Beach, Del./Cape Henlopen High School) and
Sean Seely (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage High School) both had six kills.
Gael Bravo (Lanham, Md./Bowie High School) finished the evening with six assists.
Jayceon White (Milton, Del./Cape Henlopen) ended the match with five digs.
How it Happened
Hood hung with Stevens to start the match, winning the set's first point and keeping things close at 4-4, but a six-point run from the Ducks gave the visitors a large cushion. Although the Blazers would exchange points often, staying right behind Stevens at 16-12, a 9-3 run from the Ducks finished the first set and put Hood in a 1-0 hole.
The Blazers one-upped themselves in set two, taking the first two points of the set. Stevens answered right back with a 7-1 run to quickly retake the lead though, and despite Hood's best efforts, seven straight points for the Ducks in the middle of the set to make it a 17-6 affair effectively ended any comeback chance the Blazers had.
Unfortunately for Hood, its opening-point luck had run out come the third set, as Stevens opened with four straight points. Seely got the Blazers' first kill to make it 6-2, and back-to-back points thanks to an ace from
Blake Catts (Rehoboth Beach, Del./Cape Henlopen) shortly after made it a 7-4 affair, but the Ducks became all business, scoring the next nine points to take a double-digit lead they would not relinquish, closing the match out and handing Hood a 3-0 sweep.
For the Opponent
Titus Rodz led Stevens with eight kills.
Quinn Bozarth had 20 assists and three aces.
