FREDERICK, Md. – Five Blazers mark multi-hit games as Hood earns their first home win of the season against Wilson 9-3 at FCC on Friday afternoon.
Inside the Box Score
Harrison Ludington (Woodbridge, Va/Forest Park High School) finished with three hits and a pair of RBIs.
James Gruenfelder (Port Jefferson, N.Y./Earl L. Vandermulen) had three hits along with two runs and two RBIs himself.
AJ Haines (Arlington, Va./Bishop O'Connell) had a pair of doubles.
On the Mound
Skylar Albright (Hendersonville, N.C./Hendersonville) earned the win in five innings of work allowing two runs on five hits.
From the Bullpen
Mason Salisbury (Colora, Md./Perryville) got the call in relief with four innings pitched allowing one earned run on two hits.
How it Happened
In the bottom of the first, Gruenfelder came from behind in the count and served a ball to left field that found some wind and fell inbetween fielders to clear the bases to give the Blazers the lead 2-0.
With a runner on third in threat of being stranded for the Phoenix, they ordered their runner on first to stand in the middle of first and second base. The Blazers threw down to second base and the runner at third reached safely to put the Phoenix on the board.
In the bottom half,
Harrison Ludington (Woodbridge, Va/Forest Park High School) would scamper towards home on a passed ball and beat the throw to extend the lead to three.
In the top of the third, Wilson would score again with a base hit to right and bring the runner from second around the horn for the 3-2.
The Blazers would respond in the bottom half of the inning with a hard hit ball to the second baseman that Gruenfelder burnt rubber to leg out. Gruenfelder would be moved to second before a balk would give him a free 90 feet to third. Ludington would drive a ball up the middle scoring the DH.
Wilson would reach base in the top of the fourth before
Ty Broughton (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) cut down the unaware runner at second with a quick snap throw down to second to end the inning and the response for the Phoenix nada.
The following inning would involve a Blazer infielder covering second before a pitch and the hitting slapping it to the open space putting the second runner aboard with no outs. No harm done as Hood would retire batters via strikeout, caught stealing at third and a flyout to left.
Gruenfelder would poke his third hit of the day just over the head of the shortstop with one out in the inning. Rinse and repeat, Ludington scores Gruenfelder with a hook down the line fair with the .
Quade Gannon (Felton, Del./Lake Forest) would check in with a triple to leadoff the sixth and another big swing by
AJ Haines (Arlington, Va./Bishop O'Connell) hitting off the left field wall score yet another run for the Blazers in the sixth. With a pitching change, walks would pile up and plate two more Blazers.
For the Opponent
Jayden Daphney three hits and scored twice.
