FREDERICK, Md. – The squad took on the Messiah Falcons undefeated in conference for a doubleheader and were swept 12-0 and 9-0 on a misty Saturday afternoon.
In the Batter's Box
Rebecca Gottleib (Linthicum, Md./North County) reached base twice in game one. Including a double.
Sara Munson (Inwood, W.Va./Musselman) had the second hit in game two in her pinch-hit appearance.
Sam Larkin (Pasadena, Md/Chesapeake High School) earned Hood's only hit in game two.
Messiah 12, Hood 0
Gottleib started out game one with double down the left field line and moved over to third on a flyball to right. A flyball to center on the next play was too shallow to score Hood's first run and would be the closest shot for a run.
A walk to start the second inning led to two more runners reaching aboard before a grand slam for the Falcons would break the game open and create a 5-0.
Messiah 9, Hood 0
Messiah worked a walk in the leadoff spot to start the second game and was moved to third via sacrifice before a ball hit slowly to second resulted in the run scoring and a safe play at first. That runner would be stranded at third with some groundball work from the left side of the infield.
The Blazers would mark a hit in the first inning again this time by Larkin ripping a base hit by the third basemen. The next two batters would get underneath the ball and strand Larkin.
Notes
Hood drops to 13-13, 3-5 in conference.
Messiah improves to 18-6, 8-0 in conference.
