FREDERICK, Md. – The women's soccer team hosted United East dominant St. Mary's College of Maryland and took the visitors scoreless streak to all the way to the 79' before the Seahawks broke the draw 1-0 at Thomas Athletic Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Inside the Box Score
Rachael Low (Fredericksburg, Va./Courtland) led Hood in shots with a pair.
Ashley Stine (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) made one save on the day.
How it Happened
A throw-in for the Blazers in the attacking zone soared into a sea of St. Mary's kits but ended at the feet of
Jen Vasquez (Westminster, Md./Westminster) in which she turned and fired at the goal a struck crossbar. Grow had a chance to cleanup the attempt but her attempt on the run was just high.
Both squads with a defensive mindset stuck in a stalemate, trying to get one and run away with it.
St. Mary's came out in the second half hot the trail with a one-on-one at Hood's keeper but Stine put her shin on the line and deflected it out of play.
The Blazers continued their speedy pursuit with
Zoey Hicks (Halethorpe, Md./Catonsville) at the helm legging it out creating dangerous opportunities for the Blazers.
Heartbreak for the Blazers struck when a harmless throw in turned into a rocket towards the Blazers attacking zone, St. Mary's Rebecca Flom received and then presented the ball for Ella Raines to finish the job for the 1-0.
Nonetheless, the Blue & Grey put their best offensive game of the season to the end with multiple chances at near goal but no dice. Blazers tried to spoil with a final burst of energy in the final minute with
Catie Roberts (Elkton, Md./North East) attempt to connect from deep that hit off the keeper and
Sara Yeich's (Middletown, PA/Middletown Area) poke hit just wide of the goal to keep the result final.
