Men's Basketball takes cross-conference showdown with Misericordia

FREDERICK, Md. – The duo of Garrett Cox (Glen Allen, VA/Glen Allen) and Jude Huseby (Frederick, Md./Urbana) mark double doubles as the men's basketball team holds Misericordia to 15 percent from the field in the second half to take the cross-conference matchup 86-55 in Woodsboro Bank Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Inside the Box Score

Cox led paint scoring with 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Huseby sank four triples on his way to 16 points and had 12 boards of his own.

Jevon Yarbrough (Hagerstown, Md./Williamsport) scores 14 and adds four assists.

How it Happened

The Blazers started with an 13-2 run with the Cougars hitting only one of their first 10 shots. Ryan Nasuti of the Cougars would get hot from beyond the arc and help the visitors hold on to a 10-point deficit throughout the first half.

The separation in the second half came as the Blazers' penetration of the paint opened up opportunities for kick outs and reverse pick and rolls to keep deep twos and shallow threes open.

Eli Stoute of Misericordia sank a three to pull the game within six but the Blazers responded with a dunk by Cox and continued to score while the Cougars spent the next seven minutes scoring just via the line. By the time they scored their next bucket from the field, they were down by 16 and for the rest of the game scored one basket every four minutes.

Jake Bolyn (Pottstown, Pa./Perkiomen) would drop a couple buckets to extend the lead to 18 at the 11-minute mark. The second chances on the offensive end were converted into ball movement and the freedom for the Hood offense to expand and have for scorers over 10 points.

"We still have to be better guarding the perimeter while also preventing layups," said head coach Chad Dickman. "Holding them under 30% from the floor was a big step for us, though."

"They're a good defensive team, so I was happy to score 86 points.  We moved the ball extremely well and made it tough on them to get set defensively. Great to get two blowout wins to springboard into conference play."

Analysis

Hood grabbed 57 boards to Misericordia's 34.

The Cougars shot 27 percent from the field for the game.
