FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College women's volleyball team had a Friday night matchup against the Maroons of Roanoke College but fell in the contest 3-1.

The Blazers faced a formidable opponent and found themselves in a 7-1 hole to start set one. Hood battled back into after
Maria Ricketts (Adamstown, Md./New Life Christian) found
Tara Gosney (Centreville, Pa./Centreville) for a kill, and then an attack error by the Maroons would set the score at 8-5. The Blazers tied it up at 10-10 after a
Sami Betley (Bel Air, Md./Mercy) kill. Hood stayed on the attack after a
Cam Madden (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring) kill, and the Maroons had another attack error with the score now set at 12-10. A late run by the Maroons in the set would have the score at 20-14. Hood battled to stay within reach by Roanoke would take set one 25-16.
Hood came out more aggressive offensively in set two and led Roanoke 8-3. The Maroons would the cut the lead to just one as the score was set at 9-8, but another Gosney kill and error by Roanoke gave Hood some breathing room with a score of 11-8. The Blazers found a rhythm and earned a late run to go up 21-13 after a
Janiyah Thornton (Waldorf, Md./Southern Maryland Christian Academy) kill. Roanoke punched back and the score was 24-21, but those would be the last points for the Maroons as
Cam Madden (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring) earned the kill and helped the Blazers win set two 25-21, and tie the match at 1-1.
The Blazers took a well needed timeout in set three as they went down 7-0. Mary LeBlanc (Suffolk, Va/Stonebridge) stopped the bleeding a bit with a kill as the score was 9-2. A kill by Thornton and another error by the Maroons helped the Blazers chip away at the Maroons led which was now 12-6. The Maroons went up 17-7 and stayed on the attack to improve their score to 21-9. Madden earned a kill to try and give the Blazers a spark, but Hood was still down by 11. Hood went on a late run and looked to make a comeback, but unfortunately the Maroons held a strong advantage over Hood and went up 2-1 with a set three 25-16 win.
As set four began, it was knotted at 4-4 after
Sami Foxie-Fields (Upper Marlboro, Md./South County) set teammate
Tara Gosney (Centreville, Pa./Centreville) for a kill. Roanoke went up 10-7, but the Blazers were able to knot it up at 11-11. The Maroons went on a run and went up 21-13. The Blazers looked for answers and found them in Gosney with a kill and the score now at 22-15. Roanoke was able to shut the door on Hood with a 25-16 set four win and win the match 3-1.

Kaci Morrison led the Maroons with 10 kills, and teammate Raygan Wade tallied 19 assist.
Analysis
Roanoke led in digs 71-50.
