FREDERICK, Md. – The Hood College women's volleyball team faced off against conference foe Albright on Tuesday evening and was able to tame the Lions and win the match 3-2 after being down a set.

Tara Gosney (Centreville, Pa./Centreville) had 17 kills to lead all Blazers.
Maria Ricketts (Adamstown, Md./New Life Christian) led the Blazers in assist with 24, and digs with 15.
Katie Goddard (Keedysville, Md/Boonsboro) and
Cam Madden (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring) both tallied three services aces each.
Janiyah Thornton (Waldorf, Md./Southern Maryland Christian Academy) had three blocks on the day.
How it Happened
The Blazers started off hot in set one and went up 4-0 after an error by the Lions. Albright responded with six unanswered points to take the lead 6-4. Shortly after
Maria Ricketts (Adamstown, Md./New Life Christian) found teammate,
Cam Madden (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring) who cut into the lead, which now was 6-5. Neither team was able to pull away as both teams traded points, and the score sat at 10-10. Another Madden kill extended the lead 11-10, but an error by the Blazers knotted the score back at 11 a piece. Later in the set, the Lions earned a 20-15 lead, but the Blazers went on a run and went up 24-20. Albright scored four points of their own to knot it at 24-24, but Hood was able to finish strong and win set one 26-24.
A
Tara Gosney (Centreville, Pa./Centreville) kill early in set one gave Hood a 3-2 lead, and the Blazers followed that up with a
Katie Goddard (Keedysville, Md/Boonsboro) service ace as the score was 4-2, in favor of Hood. The Blazers went down 9-6, but an error but Albright would stop the bleeding for Hood as the score was now 9-7. The score was tied 11-11, and Hood went up 13-12 after yet another Goddard service ace. Albright found some momentum late in set two to lead 19-16. Hood battled back into it but was unable to respond in set two as the Lions would tie it up 1-1 for matches won with 25-19 finish in set two.
To start set three, the Blazers earned the early advantage and went up 4-2. Hood extended it's lead 6-2 after an error by Albright. The Lions battled back into and now were down by one as the score sat 6-5.
Tara Gosney (Centreville, Pa./Centreville) earned the kill and Hood went up 7-5. The tug of war continued between the teams as the score was at 10-10, but the Lions went up 14-11. Hood found some momentum after a
Brynn Cochran (Frederick, Md./Governor Thomas Johnson) kill and went on a run to now lead 17-14. Hood went up 20-15, but Albright battled throughout the rest of the set, and a late run by the Lions helped them secure a 26-24 victory.
Albright now led 2-1 in the match and looked to close the door on Hood. The Blazers went up 7-3 as they played with some fire. Hood continued to pour it on as the Blazers now led 11-6, but the Lions battled back into it and the score was now 11-9. Later as the set progressed, Hood went up 21-15.
Tara Gosney (Centreville, Pa./Centreville) earned two more kills, and the Blazers went up 24-19. Albright fought to stay in contention and cut into the lead, as it was now 24-23, but an error by the Lions helped the Blazers win 25-23 and tie it up 2-2 for a final set showdown.
The Blazers caught fire in set five and went up 7-3, as the Lions would take a well needed timeout to regroup. After the timeout Albright answered back with a kill but the Blazers still led 7-4. Hood was able to go up 9-4, but six unanswered points helped the Lions now lead 10-9. As both teams fought to the bitter end, two back to back kills by
Cam Madden (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring) and
Sami Betley (Bel Air, Md./Mercy) helped the Blazers led 14-13. Alrbight had a final chance to answer but an error shut the door on the Lions as Hood won the set 15-13, and the match 3-2.
For the Opponent
Alexis Akwara had 15 kills and four blocks.
Paige Lipp tallied 39 assist.
Analysis
Hood led in digs 66-59.
The teams were dead locked in blocks with ten.
The Blazers edged the Lions in aces 13-12.
