FREDERICK, Md. – On both ends of the field, the Hood College field hockey team dominated the Lions of Albright College and ultimately cruised to a 5-0 win in the conference matchup.
Inside the Box Score
Lillie Kodrin (Ijamsville, Md./Oakdale) scored twice, converting both of her only shots in the game to goals.
Allison Wallin (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) had a clean slate in goal with a save on the day.
How it Happened
The Blazers got the ball rolling almost instantly. After drawing an early penalty corner just three minutes in, Massey cleaned up a shot from Scally and drew the first goal up for Hood. With the Blazers' early offense Hood looked to continue adding on to their lead in the second half.
Similar to how the second half began Hood was granted another penalty corner giving the team quality shots, but Albright's keeper Delena Dunkelberger stood tall and sent them away. In a four-minute sequence, Hood racked up five penalty corners with almost all five resulting in a shot and save by Dunkleberger. With a little over five minutes left in the third quarter, the Blazers' now had a good scout on the Lion's goalie. Then Kodrin found the back of the net off an assist from Massey to put Hood up 2-0 heading into the fourth.
With this late game momentum, it would be all Hood this quarter. With just five minutes shaved off the game clock Materna joined in on the fun as she scored her first collegiate goal off a pass from Numme. Then to add more fuel to the fire,
Becca Medina (Spotsylvania, Va./Fredericksburg Christian) batted in a promising shot from Dainton on a fast break to put Hood up by four. Finally, to close out the game's scoring just seconds after the previous goal, Snelsire intercepted a short pass from an Albright midfielder and rushed the Lion's keeper to find an open Kodrin for her second and team's fifth goal. As the final buzzer sounded, Hood would be named victorious defeating the Lions with a final score of 5-0.
